During the Java Community event at JavaOne 2003, Onno Kluyt, director of the JCP program management office (PMO), presented the first-ever JCP awards.

Jyri Huopaniemi accepts the Most Innovative J2ME JSR awardRich Rollman accepts the Most Innovative J2SE/J2EE JSR awardJim Van Peursem receives the Best Spec Lead award
Nokia Spec Lead Jyri Huopaniemi accepted the award to JSR 184, Mobile 3D Graphics API for J2METM BEA Spec Lead Rich Rollman accepted the award to JSR 207, Process Definition for JavaTM Jim Van Peursem of Motorola was awarded "Best Spec Lead" for working well with a huge group of 60 experts on JSR 118.
