Procedural Questions
Q: How do I find the most current draft of a JSR? A: Go to the JSR's detail page (http://jcp.org/en/jsr/detail?id=XXX, where "XXX" is the JSR number). Below the list of the JCP Members on the Expert Group is the status table, which lists the stage that the JSR is currently in and the stages it has completed. The entries are organized in reverse chronological order, top to bottom. Some of the entries are links: links are to either pages with ballot results or pages with downloads. Thus the top-most non-ballot link will have the most current draft. On that page, you will click either a link for the specification or a button marked "continue" or "download". You may be presented with a license before you begin the download. You will have to read and accept the agreement by clicking "accept" before you may download the specification in those cases. Q: I tried downloading a spec, but I get an error when I try to view the .pdf file with my browser. Is the site broken? A: No. Many browsers are not automatically configured to display .pdf files inline. If you experience problems viewing a .pdf version of a specification, you should do two things:
Q: I want to become a Member of the JCP. What do I do? A: Please follow the directions listed on the Becoming a Member page, for organizations or individuals as appropriate. Q: I want to become an individual Member of the JCP, but I am self-employed. How do I get my employer to sign Exhibit B? A: If you are your employer, then the employer who signs the Exhibit B is you. Q: OK, my company has signed the JSPA. Where do I go to access TCKs/RIs? A: Each Technology Compatibility Kit and Reference Implementation is licensed by the Maintenance Leads of the specific, finalized JSR. JCP Membership does not grant any special access to these. Q: I submitted my JSPA/IEPA a week ago. When will I get on the Expert Group for JSR XXX? A: Submitting a JSPA or an IEPA is not a guarantee that you will be accepted onto an Expert Group. If you have not already done so, you need to nominate yourself to serve on the Expert Group, by filling out the Expert Group nomination form (follow the link "I would like to join this Expert Group" on the JSR detail page http://jcp.org/en/jsr/detail?id=XXX, where "XXX" is the JSR number of the JSR in question). The Spec Lead, in conjunction with his Expert Group (if there is one already) then decides whether or not to admit you on to the Expert Group. Only when the Spec Lead confirms your addition to the Expert Group will you be added. Q: I want to join an Expert Group, but there is no link "I would like to join this Expert Group" on the JSR page. What do I do? A:At some point in every JSR's development, the Spec Lead and Expert Group decide to stop actively seeking new experts, and the link to join the EG is removed. Then, at Final Release, Expert Groups are officially disbanded, so if the JSR in question has reached Final Release, there is no EG to join! But if the JSR has not reached Final Release, you may contact the Spec Lead directly to see if your addition to the group would be welcome. Q: The most recent stage in the status table of JSR XXX is a long time ago. How do I know what is happening now? A: First, look at the JCP document. Chances are the Spec Lead and/or Expert Group is working on developing the specification for the stage following the last one listed. For instance, if "Expert Group formation" is the last stage listed, it can be assumed that the Expert Group is hard at work coming up with the Early Draft Review draft. Second, take a look at the "Community Update" page for that JSR (log in using your Member access information). The Spec Lead should keep this page up to date with information about the progress of the specification's development. Third, contact the Spec Lead directly with an e-mail inquiry about the status of the JSR. Finally, if this doesn't receive a response within a reasonable amount of time, write an e-mail message to pmo Q: I'm filling out the JSPA as an individual. Why do I have to fill out the "Accounts Payable" section of Exhibit A if there's no Process Cost Sharing Fee for individuals? A: The Accounts Payable section of Exhibit A is the only place where you can specify your postal address. The PMO uses your postal address to determine in which country you reside for demographics purposes, as well as for such things as invitations to Member-only events. Q: I want to cancel my JCP Membership. What do I do? A: Send a notification to the PMO via admin Q: My company is a JCP Member, but it has been acquired by another company which is not a JCP Member. What do I do? A: First, notify the PMO at admin Q: My company is a JCP Member, but it has been acquired by another JCP Member company. What do we do? A: First, notify the PMO at admin |
