- Q: I see that the major revision to the site has happened. What's new and how do I use it?
A: Refer to this summary of new features for more detail.
- Q: I just did a search for "XYZ" and the search came back with "The specified JSR was not found" or the JSR I wanted is not in the results list. What's going on?
A: The JSR search function looks at three fields: the JSR number, the JSR's title, and the JSR's description. If the term you entered into the field is not in any of those fields for the JSR, you will not be able to find the JSR page with the search feature..
- Q: I did a search for multiple terms in the JSR search: "apples and oranges". I got a bunch of results that weren't what I expected. What happened?
A: Search looks for each of the search terms separately, so you got a combination of results: matches with "apple", matches to "oranges" and matches to "and".
- Q: I want to post to a discussion board, but I can't find them. Where are they?
A: There are two ways to get to the discussion boards.
First, go to the summary page of a JSR, such as http://jcp.org/en/jsr/detail?id=330. Find and click the link "jsr-330-public". This will take you to the public discussion board for this JSR. Note: you will be able to read the jsr-xxx-public boards without logging in, but to be able to post anything to any board, you will need to log in on the left navigation bar.
Second, log in on the left navigation bar, then click "My Discussions" under "My JCP". This will take you to a list of all the general discussion boards, observers and expert group boards to which you have access.
- Q: I'm reading a discussion board, but I can't post to it. What do I need to do?
A: Log in. That's all. If you've forgotten your login information, use the login help page to have your login information sent to you. If you try that and the system doesn't recognize you, it means you haven't registered yet. Use the Register for site page to sign up today.
- Q: I participated in the new jcp.org site Beta test, but now I can't log in. What's going on?
A: The data from the Beta test was not retained, so as to not clutter the legitimate data. If you registered for the site during the Beta test, you will have to register again now if you didn't have another account with the old jcp.org site.
- Q: I submitted a nomination/posted material for an Expert Group between 8 -15 June 2009, and now it's gone. What happened?
A: Edits made during the quiet period may have been lost, since no edits should have been made during the quiet period. You will have to resubmit your nomination and/or posted materials to the Update and Expert Group pages.
- Q: I want to reorganize my Watch List, but no matter how I add them to the list, the JSRs are always sorted in a strange order. What can I do?
A: At the moment there is no way to change the order of the JSRs listed on the "My JSRs" page.
- Q: The site prompted me to login with a prompt in the main content area of the page (ie, not the left nav), but login failed. What do I do?
A: You should always be logging in using the left nav. If you find an instance of a login screen in the main content area of the site, please report it to webmaster jcp.org. There is only one exception (see #9, below).
- Q: I've tried logging in using the left nav and it doesn't work, but I know that I'm using the correct login information. What should I do?
A: Your ISP may have a novel way of handling IP addresses, which makes the jcp.org site's think that the login request is coming from a different location. So you may want to try the alternative log in without IP checking, found on the login help page. From anywhere on the site when you're not logged in, you can click "Forgot your login information?" in the left navigation bar to reach that page.
- Q: I've added an RSS feed to my reader, but the updates aren't appearing. What gives?
A: It is possible that the RSS reader you are using does not have SSL enabled. SSL is required for the jcp.org RSS feeds.
- Q: I've read about the RSS feeds and Stars content rating feature, but I can't find either of them on my JSR's summary page. Where are they?
A: RSS feeds and the stars content rating system are available to registered users on the discussion boards and wiki pages. To get there, either follow a direct link to the discussion board on the JSR summary page, or click "My Discussions" in the left navigation bar under "My JCP".
