The job of an Executive Committee (EC) representative
is a serious commitment. The time required is extensive, and includes reading of specifications, Reference Implementations (RIs),
and Technology Compatibility Kits (TCKs), as well as regular attendance at EC meetings and teleconferences to discuss and vote on
various technical and process topics. Besides voting on Java Specification Requests (JSRs) at various stages, the EC guides the
Program Management Office (PMO) in the evolution of the Java Community Process (JCP) program. EC decisions can have significant,
long-term consequences to not only the community, but also in the industry and the market. Still, plenty of JCP participants relish
the task of representing a corporation, non-profit, open source group, or themselves.

As a major consumer electronics (CE) device manufacturer and technology leader, Samsung Electronics has promoted the value position of the Java technology in the mobile and CE industry by being an early adopter and trend setter. Samsung joined the JCP program in April 2000. Since then, the company has been a Spec Lead for JSR 278, Resource Management API for Java ME. With 34 employees who actively participate in Expert Groups, Samsung has influenced approximately 35 JSRs. Samsung has been a substantial contributor to the Java community and would like to continue to use the company's expertise, understanding of consumer requirements, and technical resources to lead and positively affect the JCP ME EC and various Java ME JSRs, especially those related to mobile and home devices.
