Since 75% of the EC's voting members were present, the EC was quorate for this session.


Minutes

The EC Standing Rules state the following penalties for non-attendance at EC meetings (note that those who participate in face-to-face meetings by phone are officially counted as absent):

  • Missing two meetings in a row results in a loss of voting privileges until one meeting has been attended.

  • Missing five meetings in a row, or missing two-thirds of the meetings in any consecutive 12-month period results in loss of the EC seat.

There are no changes in voting privileges as a result of this meeting.

Personnel Changes/EC Elections

The following EC personnel changes were reported: Additional BNY Mellon EC Alternate added, Voctor Grazi; Sirisha Pratha becomes Primary, replacing Chandra Guntur on the JCP EC. Rodrigo Graciano remains as an additional alternate.

EC Stats

Heather presented the usual EC stats (see the presentation for details) a few comments from Iris Clark on the upcoming ballot and Final Release of JSR 397, Java SE 22.

JCP 25 Year Anniversary

Heather shared updates from the 25th anniversary of the JCP program (see the presentation for details) including the opening of the JUG kit orders for our Partner Members. Heather also shared a summary of the in-person event at the Computer History Museum on January 25, 2024 and highlighted the winners of the JCP Annual Awards presented at the event - Brian Goetz, Frank Greco, Zoran Sevarac and Devoxx4Kids South Africa/Jozi JUG. Pictures from the event will be published on jcp.org.

Java in Education

Heather reviewed the summary of discussions in the Java in Education. We reviewed some of the newly updated materials and resources on how Java is being used in industry published on the GitHub wiki. Heather leads a monthly discussion with Java User Group (JUG) leaders to discuss the workshops they are organizing in their local communities and provide guidance and best practices - the next meeting is on February 20. In March we will also host a larger meeting for all JUG leaders to talk more broadly about the presentations and how to use them in local Java educational communities (see recording on multimedia page). Heather Stephens joined us to share an update on some of the work her team is doing in the Oracle Java Platform Group (see presentation for details). Join the groups.io list for more details.

Java Ecosystem

Heather shared that she will be leading a working group starting March 12 discussing topics related to the Java ecosystem third party libraries topic, as discussed in our previous meetings. Don Raab will co-lead the working group and we will provide updates in the April EC meeting. Heather will send the details to the EC mailing list.

Other business - Logistics and Calendar

Heather reviewed the 2024 JCP Calendar and logistics for our April JCP EC Face for Face Meeting. EC Members to complete the Doddle poll for Spring 2024 activities in around our JCP EC Meeting in Munich hosted by MicroDoc. We will meet in Seattle the week of October 14, 2024, hosted by Amazon. Tentative hosts for our 2025 face to face meetings are Microsoft in the Bay Area in March and Arm in Cambridge in October 2025.

We then adjourned the meeting.
