MinutesThe EC Standing Rules state the following penalties for non-attendance at EC meetings (note that those who participate in face-to-face meetings by phone are officially counted as absent):
Personnel changes/EC ElectionsNew additional Alternate for BNY, Loiane Groner (see presentation for details).
EC StatsHeather presented the usual EC stats (see the PMO presentation for details).
Java Ecosystem Working GroupHeather reviewed the wiki page and the next meeting date. Juergen Hoeller and Sebastien Deleuze presented on the Spring release model (see presentation for details). The next working group discussion will be during the JCP Social Event on 18 March, where we will discuss the topic with library maintainers attending the JavaOne conference.
JavaDoc UpdateHannes Wallnoefer presented a JavaDoc update (see the presentation for details).
JCP Award NominationsHeather reminded the EC Members that nominations for the 2024 JCP Awards have been published. The EC will vote on the JCP Awards later this month, and the awards will be presented at the annual JCP event. The annual JCP event will be held 18 March during the JavaOne Conference in Redwood Shores, California. (see the presentation for details).
JavaOneChad Arimura presented updates on plans for the upcoming JavaOne Conference being held in March 2025 in Redwood Shores, California as well as some additional Java Developer Relations topics (see presentation for details).
Java in EducationHeather reviewed the summary of discussions in the Java in Education group - we reviewed some updates to the materials for JUG leaders focused on how developers are utilizing Java in industry, published on the Java in Education GitHub wiki. Heather leads a monthly discussion with Java User Group (JUG) leaders to discuss the workshops they are organizing in their local communities and provide guidance and best practices; the next discussion will be during the JCP Social Event on 18 March.
Java & AIHeather proposed that the topic suggested by Zoran on Java & AI be postponed to our next meeting in March. (see the presentation for details).
Other Business - Logistics and 2025 CalendarHeather reviewed a few upcoming events and dates in the calendar. Microsoft is no longer able to host the March 2025 EC Meeting. The hosts for our 2025 face to face meetings are Oracle in the Bay Area on Friday, March 21, 2025, and Arm in Cambridge October 10, 2025.
