JCP PMO News Bulletin
June 2001

Hello JCP Members,
Here is your June edition of the PMO News Bulletin.

This Bulletin is sent to JCP Members, Spec Leads and Experts and is
scheduled to be a monthly insert in your email inbox. This edition
focuses on JCP.ORG and its new features.

JCP Member Event @ JavaOne
--------------------------
Your Program Office successfully held - for the first time! - a JCP
Member Event at JavaOne. JCP Members, Executive Committee Members and
Spec Leads gathered together at the Marriott Hotel, near Moscone Center
with atttendance of over 150 people. Attendees had the opportunity to
learn about impovements to the JCP program and to hear from members of
the two Executive Committees. The PMO looks forward to hosting many
more of the these events in the future.

JCP.ORG
-------
Also at JavaOne, the PMO launched its new web site - JCP.ORG at
http://www.jcp.org. JCP.ORG replaces the JCP site available through
the Java technology page at http://java.sun.com/jcp.

The new site features:
- improved look and feel, better site organization;
- dedicated JSR navigation functions that allow you to view, comment
  on and track JSRs moving through the process by stage, technology
  or by Executive Committee;
- password protected home pages for each JSR that the Spec Leads can
  update to help with communication among expert group members, post
  links to drafts, etc;
- a JCP.org hosted mail list archive tool for each expert group to use
  to communicate with each other;
- a new set of tools for expert groups for creating Technology
  Compatibility Kits (TCK)-- this new service includes:
  * technical documentation that describes compatibility
testing;
  * JavaTest harness which includes features such as scheduling,
    reporting, monitoring and analysis of test suites.

about JCP.ORG and what further improvements and enhancements you would
like to see made to help you participate in JCP.

JCP.ORG Usability Study
-----------------------
If you would like the opportunity to influence future site improvements
and enhancements to the website, you are invited to participate in the
upcoming JCP.ORG usability study.
The study will be held July 25-27, 2001 in Menlo Park, CA.
All participants will receive a $100 honorarium and gift.  Contact
Cindy Yepez at 650-786-4044 or cindy.yepez@sun.com if you are
interested in participating.

** Notable JSRs **
------------------
This section of the News Bulltin calls out JSRs that have news to share
with the Java Community. If your JSR has something newsworthy to report
then send an alert ("Hey PMO!") to pmo@jcp.org.

JSR 913
-------
Maintenance Review closed on June 11. The EC voting rules amendment is
scheduled to go into effect on July 10th, 2001.

Expert Groups

If you are a Spec Lead then please check the listing of your Expert
Group on the JSR page and be sure to send the PMO any additions,
deletions or changes. This information determines who has access to the
Expert Group home page.
