Minutes, summary from previous meetings

The ECs approvedl the minutes and summary for the April EC meeting.

PMO Topics

EC statistics were presented for offline review. The following personnel changes were reported:

  • ME EC
    • Mike Milikich (mike.milikich@motorola.com) replaced James Warden as Motorola's primary rep. Replacement alternate not yet named.
    • Jim Lee (alternate rep) has left Qisda (not yet officially confirmed).
  • SE/EE EC
    • Makiko Shimamura (jikeitou-std-contact@ml.css.fujitsu.com) replaced Masahiko Narita as Fujitsu's primary rep.
    • Bryn Rahm (rahm@nortel.com), formerly the alternate rep, replaced Harpreet Geekee as Nortel's primary rep. Adam Boyle (aboyl@nortel.com) is the new alternate.

The ECs discussed whether or not a special election should be held to fill the seat vacated by BEA. Since there was no quorum, it was agreed to hold an electronic vote on this matter immediately after the meeting.

Message from Qisda

Patrick presented a message received from Qisda, in which they stated their intention to withdraw from the spec-lead and co-spec-lead positions on the JSRs that they have led. Members discussed the implications and consequences of this matter, and decided to take legal advice before discussing at a future EC meeting.

JavaOne debriefing and press coverage report

Patrick presented a summary of JCP activities and press coverage at JavaOne.

JCP reform

The bulk of the meeting was spent in discussions on JCP reform. The following topics were discussed:

  • Licensing
  • Transparency
  • Governance
  • IPR
  • Compatibility and branding
  • Agility and collaboration

The ECs agreed to form working groups to develop the proposals to the next level of detail.

Calinel presented and led a discussion on ME ecosystem issues. See the presentation for details.
