Motorola is voting yes, but continues to voice our concern that Sun work with the industry to develop a fair licensing model that encourages wide acceptance and implementation of Java standards. Similar to Nokia, Siemens, and IBM, Motorola believes this is best achieved through license models that are simple, predictable, affordable and represent cost recovery for the TCK development only.

Our "Yes" vote is based on the technical merits of the JSR.

We think that this JSR is an important milstone in the J2ME history and we think it is important that this JSR is successful and that it is deployed in devices in a timely manner.

Wh would like to point out that we a concerned about the proposed licensing model and we encourage to have a simple, predictable and affordable licensing model. We welcome the promise of Sun to revice the licensing model during this coming autumn.

The JTWI specification meets the needs of the wireless Java market, defining a challenging, but achievable "lowest common denominator".
However appropriate licensing terms are necessary if this specification is to be accepted by the industry.

On 2003-06-27 Nokia Corporation voted Yes with the following comment:
Although Nokia's vote is based on the technical merits of  this JSR and not on the licensing terms, Nokia still wants to  express its support for license models that foster an open environment for and wide acceptance and adoption of Java specifications. 
Nokia believes that competition in implementation of Java  technologies is best served through license models that are  simple, predictable and affordable for a wide range of implementors.

Nokia therefore welcomes the express commitment of the Spec Lead to further improve the licensing model for JSR-185 as such improvements are deemed necessary for the sustainable success of this JSR.
