We note that the issue of more direct reuse of the deployment and packaging format defined by JSR053 Java servlet specification is still open in this draft (open issue 14.1). We feel that the Java developer community would benefit from a more direct reuse of the established packaging and deployment model defined by JSR053, rather than defining a new-but-similar model. In particular the semantics of the SAR packaging format are all but the same as that of the existing WAR format, and much of the deployment information defined in the sip.xml defined in this draft could be more directly reused by reference from the existing Java servlet specification v.2.3.
