Dear EC members,

We are reaching to you to request your approval of the continuation of JSR 370 in a renewal ballot. While we have missed the EDR date mandated by JCP due to a slow-down in the JSR progress that we had experienced in the past, we are still committed to continue our work towards a successful release of this JSR.

At this point, we have resumed an active EG discussion and are now focusing on drafting proposals for SSE support, Reactive APIs and Non-blockign IO support.

To ensure a sustained progress, our current mitigation plan includes an option of setting a time-bound release deadline for the JSR and work more actively towards this deadline, while reducing the original scope proposed for the the JSR if necessary.

IBM's vote is based on the technical merits of this JSR and is not a vote on the licensing terms.  IBM supports licensing models that create an open and level playing field by allowing third parties to create independent implementations of Java Specifications and that do not allow individuals or companies to exercise unnecessary control for proprietary advantage.  We support open source as a licensing model for contributions in the JCP, and would hope others will support this direction. This comment is not necessarily directed at the current business or license terms for this JSR, however, it is a statement of IBM's preferred licensing model.
