Vote Now – 2004 Executive Committee Elections

The 2004 Executive Committee (EC) Elections are coming to a close – there are only a few days left to vote. The JSPA contact(s) for each JCP member are obligated to vote again in this phase of the elections and have been sent their voting PIN via email on 9 November. The candidates on the ballot in this round are as follows:
  • SE/EE EC: Awais Bajwa, Google, John Harby, Intel, JBoss, JetBrains, Novell, Burc Oral, SeeBeyond Technology, Hani Suleiman.
  • ME EC: Aplix, Cox Communications, Intel, Gino Micacchi, Orange France, Enrique Ortiz, Telecom Italia.

There are 5 open seats remainin – 3 on the SE/EE EC and 2 on the ME EC. If you have not already done so, please go to the voting web site and cast your vote before midnight PST on this Monday, 15 November!

Results will be available on the same site on Tuesday 16 November.

JCP PMO Closure Dates

The EC is changing during the week of 16 - 23 November 2004. This means no 2 week ballots can start on 16 November. The PMO will be on holiday 25 - 26 November and on winter holiday vacation from 24 December 2004 - 2 January 2005. This means no 2 week ballots can start on 14, 21 or 28 December. Also, no Community Review or Early Draft Review ballot can start on 21 or 28 December and no Maintenance Review can end between 24 December 2004 and 2 January 2005.

Noteworthy JSRs

There are several new JSRs being developed through the JCP program. You can nominate to serve on the expert group of these JSRs by clicking on the "Join Expert Group" link on the JSR detail page urls listed below.
You can also join the Observer Alias of JCP 2.6 JSRs by emailing the spec lead (listed on the JSR detail page).

  • JSR 259, Ad Hoc Networking API, is now available for review. The purpose of this JSR is to define an API that enables communication between mobile devices in a peer-to-peer ad-hoc network environment. The review closes on 15 November.
  • JSR 258, Mobile User Interface Customization API, is now available for review. The Mobile User Interface Customization API provides a way to query and modify the user interface customization properties of a mobile device or platform. The review closes on 15 November.
  • JSR 257, Contactless Communication API, has been approved by the ME EC. This specification will define J2ME Optional Packages for contactless communication, one package for bi-directional communication and the other for accessing read-only information.
  • JSR 256, Mobile Sensor API, has been approved by the ME EC. The API provides general Sensor API that extends the usability and choice of sensors for J2ME applications. It defines generic sensor functionality optimized for the resource-constrained devices like mobile devices.
  • JSR 233 is now available for Early Draft Review. This JSR extends J2EE to support mobile device management and monitoring aspects. The review closes on 3 December.
