Jcp program Events -- EC Elections, EC face-to-face meeting, Javapolis

The 2006 Executive Committee (EC) Elections are coming to a close – there are only a few days left to vote. The JSPA 2 contact(s) for each JCP member are obligated to vote again in this phase of the elections and have been sent their voting PIN via email. There are 3 open seats remaining – 1 on the SE/EE EC and 2 on the ME EC. If you have not already done so, please go to the voting web site and cast your vote before midnight PST on this Monday, 13 November! Results will be available on the same site on Tuesday, 14 November: https://www.jcpelection2006.org/jcp/election_ballot

PMO schedule - Elections changeover & Holidays

The EC is changing 14 - 28 November 2006. This means no 2 week ballots can start on 14 November or 21 November. The PMO will be on holiday 23 - 24 November and on winter vacation from 27 December 2006 - 1 January 2007. This means no 2 week ballots can start on 12, 19 or 26 December. Also, no Community Review or Early Draft Review ballot can start on 19 or 26 December and no Maintenance Review can end between 22 December 2006 and 1 January 2007.

Noteworthy JSRs

  • JSR 308, Annotations on Java Types, has been approved by the SE/EE EC to continue development in the Java Community Process, version 2.6.:
  • JSR 293, Location API 2.0, is now available for Early Draft Review; this review closes on 7 December.
  • JSR 272, Mobile Broadcast Service API for Handheld Terminals, is now available for Public Review; this review closes 4 December.
  • JSR 258, Mobile User Interface Customization API, has published a Proposed Final Draft.
  • JSR 270, Java SE 6 Release Contents, has passed the SE/EE EC Final Approval Ballot, and the Proposed Final Draft is available; upcoming will be the Final Release.
  • The Expert Group for JSR 257, Contactless Communication API, has completed its work and published the Final Release of the specification
  • JSR 243 Java Data Objects 2, has published a list of proposed changes for Maintenance Review; this review closes 20 November.
  • JSR 222 Java Architecture for XML Binding 2, is now available for Maintenance Review; this review closes 27 November.
  • JSR 224 Java API for XML-Based Web Services (JAX-WS) 2.0, is now available for Maintenance Review; this review closes 27 November.
  • JSR 926 Java 3D, is now available for Maintenance Review; this review closes 4 December.
  • The Expert Group for JSR 262 , A Web-Services Connector for JMX Agents, recently decided to replace the custom protocol that was defined in the Early Draft document with a protocol that builds on the WS-Management standard. The details of the change and the background are described by the Spec Lead in his blog. They will be issuing another Early Draft in due course that incorporates the change, but wanted to get the message out beforehand in the interests of transparency.
