Vote Now – 2004 Executive Committee Elections

The 2004 Executive Committee (EC) Elections are underway – only a few days left to vote. This year the ratification ballot is open until midnight on Monday 18 October. The JSPA contact(s) for each JCP member are obligated to vote and have been sent their voting PIN via email on 12 October. Please remember to vote if you haven't already at http://jcpelection2004.org!

Following the ratifications, nominations for the open elections can be submitted. There will be 5 open seats – 3 on the SE/EE EC and 2 on the ME EC. The nomination template will become available from the voting web site on 19 October.

The JCP @ Upcoming Industry Events

The JCP is participating at several industry events in the coming months. If you would like the JCP to participate at an event you are organzing/attending, please send email to heather@jcp.org. The events for October are listed below.
  • Aaron Williams, Manager of the JCP PMO, will deliver a session at the JavaPro Live! Conference in Boston next week, 18 October at 13:00, "Building Better Platforms with Binary Standards."
  • All JCP members welcome to participate in the half day Tiger Workshop at OOPSLA 2004 in Vancouver on 28 October, 13:30. Topics will cover Experience with Tiger JSRs, plans for Mustang and Dolphin, Value Types, Reference Immutability,, RTSJ extensions. Speakers will include James Gosling, Graham Hamilton, Bill Pugh, Doug Lea, Josh Bloch, Gilad Bracha, David Bacon and more.

Noteworthy JSRs

JSR 208, Java Business Integration (JBI), is now available for Early Draft Review.
This JSR extends J2EE with business integration SPIs.
The review closes 22 November.

JSR 242, Digital Set Top Box Profile - "On Ramp to OCAP", is now available for Early Draft Review. The requested specification will define a J2ME profile based on the Connected Limited Device Configuration (CLDC) that is appropriate for use by small-footprint cable television set top boxes. The review closes 31 October.

JSR 176, Final Release of the Umbrella JSR for J2SE 5.0, "Tiger" and the JRSs part of the Tiger Release are now available for download.
